Long Distance & Other Walks

Three Peaks Challenge 2011

The Three Peaks Challenge is a well known challenge to climb the 3 highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales in 24 hours!

We did this at the end of July 2011. Many people do this walk to raise money for a charity (we saw many different T-shirts on the way!). We were raising money for Access Sport: http://www.accesssport.org.uk/.

The 3 peaks are:

Ben Nevis (Scotland): 1344m

Scafell Pike (England): 978m

Snowdon (Wales): 1085m

They can be walked in either direction (Wales -> England -> Scotland or vica vesa). We started at Ben Nevis and worked our way southwards!

We decided to drive up from London on the Friday and camp at the Glen Nevis Campsite at the foot of Ben Nevis - ready for a bit of Breakfast and a 6am start!

These timings meant that we climbed Ben Nevis in the morning, Scafell Pike later that evening and started Snowdon at 3am in the dark, reaching the summit around sunrise. Having a dedicated driver is highly recommended especially if you get travel sick like me!

Our schedule, therefore looked like this:

Ben Nevis: Total 5hrs

Start: 6am,

Summit: 9am

Completed: 11am

Scafell Pike: Total 3hrs 45mins

Start: 18:30pm

Summit: 20:45pm

Completed: 22:15pm

Snowdown: Total 4hrs 30mins

Start: 3:30am

Summit: 5:55am

Completed 8:00am
